What Should I Do When My Wife and Mother Don’t Get Along?

Dear Editors:

Since my father passed away in 1960, my mother has raised me. We supported each other until I got married. Then she retired from her job and has helped me raise my child and prepare meals every day. My family life should be very happy. But recently I have dreaded going home. Each time I enter the door my wife looks at me with a long face and asks: “Who do you want, your mother or me? If you want me, you had better find a separate home for us soon.” My mother then tells me how her daughter-in-law avoids doing housework and offends her. She complains that I have forgotten her ever since I got married. I am being attacked by both sides. What should I do?
